February Week 3 – Valentines Card

Obviously with the subject being Valentines Card this is again a delayed post – for 2 reasons 1. So hubby didn’t see the card before the day and 2.  To give me time to have a bit of a catch up.

So for this card I used the following from my stash:

I used my Cricut Explore to cut the text and then accentuated parts of it with the stickles.  My aim was to keep a pretty clean and simple (CAS) card.

February Week 3 – Crochet

So another catch up post… the weekend after I finished knitting the components for the mermaid tail to put of sewing it together I decided I wanted to do some Crochet.  This is another pattern from the Knit and Crochet magazine.  Again this is design that I fell in love with and actually I thought it could be the start of a Crochet Blanket and what better way to start than with a nice spring square. This also used  the free wool from the magazine.

I hope you like it 🙂 I am not going to update on the status of any of my other projects as nothing has changed since last night.

February Week 3 – Knitting

Well I am a little bit behind on my posts this month – although that doesn’t mean I haven’t been spending some time doing crafts.  It is more of a mix of things 1. Work has just been so busy including working at home in the evenings and 2. putting off “finishing” my wool projects.  I find the sewing together and sewing in ends the most boring part of Knitting and Crochet and as such sometimes I put it off for quite some time before I do it.

You will remember at the end of January I was half way through a second project – one that I was making for my hubby.  Well about 2 weeks ago (so really not that far into February) I completed that knitting project (well all except the finishing). So I have finally got round to finishing the project and therefore time to share it with you.

This was a pattern from Knitting and Crochet magazine.  As soon as I saw the pattern I fell in love with it.  Hubby does photography in his spare time and he has a few baby props and I knew this would be a perfect design to go with his baby props.  I used the free wool from the magazine for this project – although you could use whatever colour scheme you wished.

I hope you like it 🙂

January – Summary

So as it is the last day in January I thought I would update on my progress of my Goals for the month.   It has been a very busy weekend – and not helped this evening by the fact I seem to have injured my back.

Unfortunately I haven’t quite made all of my challenges.

  • 2016 PL layouts – I set out to complete these within 2 weeks of the event.  There has only really been 1 event worth documenting this year – which I have done (even if it was just outside me 2 week target)
  • 2015 PL layouts – I set out to catch up with 4 of my backlog of layouts and unfortunately time appears to have evaded me here and I have only managed 3.  I think had I managed time a bit differently I could have managed all 4 – so I am going to leave this as the challenge for February.
  • 1 Baking Project – I did manage this one – a little last minute but I managed it.
  • 1 Knitting / Crotchet Project – I managed to complete one project quite early in the month and got 1/2 through a second.  I plan to leave this as 1 as I think this is achievable.
  • 2 General Cards – I completed these 2 for both Mothers.  It is a very good mates Birthday early in February but as he lives in America and things have been a bit manic recently I haven’t managed to make his card.  We do obviously have valentines day this month therefore that will be 1 of my 2; and then I may do a “generic” card as my second maybe for one of the Challenge blogs.
  • 2 / 2 Christmas Cards – I completed 2 Christmas cards this month although I failed to use the Christmas 52 blog for this month – so I am hoping to use that for at least 1 of the cards this month.
  • 32/31 MosaiCraft Squares – I have managed to do this everyday (although still need to do this evenings) along with 2 bonus squares where I have had a small amount to finish a baseplate.

So I am going to leave the challenges the same for February…lets see how it goes!

Week 4 – MosaiCraft

So last night I caught up my MosaiCraft from Friday as I was a little tied up with Scouts and didn’t have time to do any.  There was 1 colour left of the baseplate so I did a bonus “square” as well to complete the baseplate.

Block7

That takes my total to 7 out of 9 baseplates complete so I will need to start thinking about a backing board and frame soon to put it all together so that it can go alongside our “Exploding Tardis” photo from the Van Gogh episode of Dr Who.  So I guess I will be starting the next baseplate later.

Look out later for the final update on my progress against my January Goals.

Once again – thanks for reading 🙂

Week 4 – Baking

Well since I brought the hubby a new stand mixer for Christmas I have struggled to get in the kitchen to do any baking as he has been very busy in there – he has even finally mastered Choux Pastry.

So having spent the night helping him with his Scout sleepover (that was after I had ran my Explorer Scouts), and spending Saturday Morning doing the normal weekend tasks (shopping etc), aswell as completing Scout Census I settled in to do some baking to keep me awake.  We have got another scout event all day tomorrow so I thought I would treat them (or punish them – im not sure) with some of my baking.

First I decided to make some Chocolate Brownies – my chocolate brownies normally have nuts in – but hubby doesnt like nuts and I am unsure if any of the Young People at the event have any nut allergies I decided to modify my recipe and replace the nuts with White Chocolate “chunks” … it has kind of worked although if I was to do it again I think I would use a bar of chocolate cut into chunks myself.

Brownies

Once the brownies were in the oven cooking I decided it was my turn to test hubbys new mixer to make a cinnamon swirl cake.  This is done by making a vanilla sponge and then a Cinnamon (and sugar) paste which you swirl into the cake using a palate knife. I then topped this off with a home-made cinnamon butter-cream (although we had run out of icing sugar so I used a mix of Fondant and normal icing sugar).

Cinamon Swirl

Hopefully they go down well tomorrow.

There is not much of January left so here is an update on my other crafting goals:

  • 2016 PL Layouts (1/1 so far)
  • 2015 PL Layouts (3/4 so far)
  • 1/1 Baking Project
  • 1.5/1 Knitting / Crotchet Project
  • 2 /2 General Card
  • 2/2 Christmas Cards
  • 32/31 MosaiCraft Squares Complete (I have done one bonus one).

Week 4 – Project Life

Well this is actually another thing I ticked off my to-do list on Sunday – it has just taken me some time to catch up on the blog.  This was another of my Project Life Layouts from 2015 as well as being the last day of our Torbay holiday.

Shot

This was the day that we came back via the Butterfly and Otter Sanctuary and the steam trains.  I used the DIY Shop Value kit for this layout along with a wooden butterfly and a wooden otter button. Again I had a lot of photos that I wanted to show off – so I let them tell alot of the story and kept the embellishments simple.

Layout

This layout didnt take at all long to put together which made me remember why I enjoy project life so much.

Here is an update on my other crafting goals:

  • 2016 PL Layouts (1/1 so far)
  • 2015 PL Layouts (3/4 so far)
  • 0/1 Baking Project
  • 1/1 Knitting / Crotchet Project
  • 2 /2 General Card
  • 2/2 Christmas Cards
  • 29/31 MosaiCraft Squares Complete (I have done one bonus one).

Week 3 – Christmas Card 2

As I explained in my previous post … I sat down this afternoon to create 2 Christmas cards.  For the second of these I used the Sketch Saturday Week 396 Challenge Sketch:

Week 3 – Christmas Card 1

So after the landlady had been an gone for our house inspection this morning and I did the Sunday must do’s.  I sat down to a quiet afternoon Crafting whilst hubby played on the X-box.  I decided today I was going to work on my 2 Christmas cards for the month – I will be blogging about these in separate posts so lookout for another post in the near future.

For the first card I used the Mojo Monday Challenge 431 Sketch as an inspiration.  The sketch is below.

Week 3 – Knitting

Been a busy week this week both at work and outside work.  But still had time to do a little bit of crafting in the evening to relax before bed.  So one of the projects I have been working on since Christmas was a Christmas present from my husband which is a knitting kit.  Whilst I had a minor issue with the kit to start (I only had 1/2 the pattern) Aldi quickly resolved this and supplied me the rest of the pattern.

I finished knitting the parts last week but I just had to sew it all together – this is definitely the bit of knitting I don’t enjoy and I have a tendency to put off.

So … here is Milly the Meerkat – please enjoy 🙂

Milly Meercat

I have also started my next Knitting Project although I don’t expect to finish it this month … but watch this space in the future… its something for my husband.

Here is an update on my other crafting goals:

  • 2016 PL Layouts (1/1 so far)
  • 2015 PL Layouts (2/4 so far)
  • 0/1 Baking Project
  • 1/1 Knitting / Crotchet Project
  • 2 /2 General Card
  • 0/2 Christmas Cards
  • 24/31 MosaiCraft Squares Complete (I have done one bonus one).

Just 1 week to complete the Christmas cards, baking project and 2 more PL layouts… going to be a busy lady.
